Founded by Eric S. Montalvo and Debra A. D’Agostino, FPG began as a team of tough, experienced, respected federal practitioners focused on the unique bodies of law created by the U.S. federal government and taking on the federal government on behalf of our clients. While headquartered in Washington, D.C., FPG provides legal services worldwide, wherever our clients, including military members or federal employees, are stationed in the areas of military law, government contracting, national security law, federal employment law, immigration law, and international business law. As important as providing exceptional legal services, Mr. Montalvo and Ms. D’Agostino also felt it had to be provided at an exceptional value. These values are what the firm was born with and led to such a successful launch.
Today, the Federal Practice Group has grown to over 30 attorneys and affiliated counsel who practice in more than a dozen major areas of law across the world. This elite group of attorneys has been hand-picked to ensure that the original goal to provide valuable, outstanding legal services is maintained. Growth of this magnitude can only be attributed to outstanding legal work and client satisfaction.
Our attorneys are experienced litigators who have earned reputations for skilled, aggressive and successful representation of our clients. We began by fighting the federal government to save our clients’ lives and futures and it does not end there. Whether you have a federal employment law matter, a government contract dispute, or need white collar defense, our attorneys will fight to protect your rights and get you the justice you deserve. We listen and understand our clients’ needs and are fearless in protecting our clients’ rights. We have unusual access and reach into the military, federal employment, and international business arenas in which we practice and we leverage that reach for our clients. We fight smarter and harder, and provide exceptional competency without the big law firm price.
"The Federal Practice Group was amazing through my case. At all times the attorneys kept me up dated about any issues, or upcoming actions that needed to take place. The team led me through the lengthy process with the EEOC and got me a successful outcome. I would highly recommend the Federal Practice Group to anyone facing discrimination, or legal issues related to Federal employment."
"I had a great experience working with the Federal Practice Group. They were knowledgeable and very responsive. I would hire them again in a heartbeat."
"I am very grateful for the knowledge and diligence of Carol Thompson in defending me during a potential ending Army 15-6 investigation. End result was an OER recommending me for War College."
"My attorney was Ricardo Pitts-Wiley. He was very professional, prompt and knowledgeable in every aspect of my case. He handled my case with integrity and respect. I never felt taken advantage of. I’d recommend him to anyone seeking legal assistance. Thank you Ricardo!"
"Carol Thompson and her group went above and beyond. They listen to your needs, keep lines of communication open, are responsive, reassuring, and Produce Positive outcomes."
"I had a EEO complaint against the Federal Government because of discrimination. It was resolved in a short matter of time in my favor."
"There is no worse feeling than being retaliated against for telling the truth during a federal inspection and interview. The team at the Federal Practice Group did an outstanding job protecting my job, representing me and bringing the conflict to a favorable resolution. If you are discriminated against or face retaliation for reporting serious issues, these are great lawyers who really know federal labor laws. They also understand the consequences and expense for standing up to the government and do a terrific job at keeping the expenses down and offering realistic advice. I would highly recommend them."
"I had Carol Thompson as my lawyer and she knocked my case out of the park. She was very professional and attentive. Without hesitation, she cross examined the witness and knew the legal language to crush the case. She is a true patriot for our military. Without her I would be a civilian trying to figure out which direction to take. Thank you again, Mrs. Carol Thompson".
"I am very grateful for the professional representation provided by the entire Federal Practice Group Team. Their hard work and compassion throughout a very difficult ordeal and rather dark time for me professionally made all the difference. Joanna Friedman and Sarah McKinin worked diligently to get the best possible outcome for me. They were straightforward and direct during the process. Things were very difficult at times, they were reassuring and available when I had questions about deadlines and in preparation for hearings and depositions. I would recommend them and FPG to anyone that feels they have been subjected to discrimination or maltreatment in the federal work place."
"Carol Thompson and the FPG team are highly knowledgeable and incredibly capable. I appreciated the quality and professionalism of FPG’s service. I cannot say how highly knowledgeable and incredibly capable they are. I can categorically state that if your in need of highly effective counsel the FPG team should be your first choice, particularly in the world of Defense Law. You can’t afford to compromise on experience and knowledge. Again thank you so much for the quality assistance, your value to your client is almost impossible to calculate as it also includes piece of mind."
"My attorney was Joanna Friedman. I cannot thank her enough for the outstanding and professional legal representation I received during my EEO case in September 2019. She worked diligently and expeditiously to resolve my case within a short period of time, and the outcome was very satisfying. I could not have handled the case without her guidance and professional assistance. Thank you, once again, Ms. Joanna Friedman. I would recommend you, and the Federal Practice Group team to anyone seeking legal assistance."
"Debra and her team are experts in their field. They put my mind at ease and pursued all legal avenues. They included me in the process and treated me as a knowledgeable and valuable part of the case. Their efforts paid off as we got the outcome I had hoped for, which resulted in preserving my work reputation and my ability to apply for future jobs. I am truly indebted to them."
"After being fired from my federal job I had a lot of questions. Debra and her team were always available to answer questions and gave me their best recommendation on who to bring in for deposition, and who should be the witnesses for the trial, etc. They also used their paralegals in the areas that saved me money. During the trial, Monica blew the Navy's lawyer out of the water! Every witness the Navy brought forth, proved OUR point and ultimately the judge found in my favor."
"Words cannot express how thankful I am for Ricardo J.A. Pitts-Wiley and Debra D'Agostino's help with dealing with discrimination and whistleblower retaliation that I faced as a federal government employee. It was a very difficult time in my life and was negatively impacting my family. Not to mention, I was at the lowest point in my 18 year career with the government. Thanks to Ricardo's expert advice and positive outlook I was able to recover from a long period of being degraded, harassed, and attacked. Anyone who is looking for a professional, caring, knowledgeable attorney that has experience working with the federal government should request Ricardo or the Federal Practice Group's help."
"When you realize you are being sued by the United States it can be an overwhelming feeling. However, after discussing my case with Eric, I felt much better about what could be done on my behalf. While the case was complex, he did a great job negotiating with the government for a settlement that I was very satisfied with."
"I immediately contacted Eric Montalvo after finding false allegations against me could lead to a Court Martial and the end of my military career. He brought Carol Thompson on board and the two of them did a phenomenal job prepping for the Article 32. At the hearing Carol’s prep work on the witnesses was outstanding and she proved the allegations against me were false. Eric and Carol’s efforts proved there was no probable cause so in addition to all charges being dismissed, the initial arrest became invalid so my criminal record and finger prints at the NCIS and FBI NCIC level were expunged. Eric and Carol gave me my life back."
"I would like to take a moment and thank the Federal Practice Group (Eric Montalvo, Carol Thompson, Ji-Eun Lee and staff/associates) for helping me upgrade my military discharge to full “Honorable” and my re-enlistment code changed to “RE-1A.” It was due to Carol Thompson's attention to detail upon reviewing my case file; she was able to discover multiple discrepancies with my United Stated Marine military discharge. Carol Thompson and I made a personal appearance at the Washington Naval Yard. The evidence Carol Thompson presented to the review board panel was set in stone! I highly recommend the Federal Practice Group and their associates to anyone seeking legal assistance. Thank you for everything you have done for me. I sincerely and greatly appreciate it."
