Criminal defense in the military is a delicate and difficult area of law. Recently, two Air Force Academy cadets were charged with sexual misconduct at the school. The incidents date all the way back to 2009, when one of the cadets was in preparatory school. According to reports, one cadet is accused of attempting to commit sodomy against another academy cadet candidate at the prep school. That same cadet has also been charged under the Uniform Code of Military Justice article dealing with rape and carnal knowledge. He supposedly fondled a cadet in November 2011, and used restraint so that she could not get away while he tried to escape the sexual conduct. The same cadet was also charged with committing sodomy with another comrade by force in November of 2011.

Another cadet at the academy faces two charges from incidents that occurred in May 2011. The young man supposedly attempted to commit sodomy twice. He was accused of the article dealing with rape and knowledge of engaging in sexual acts. The charge sheet says that this cadet placed a woman in fear that she would be subjected to bodily harm. The charges are accusations at present, and the cadets have not been formally convicted of any of the allegations. The cadets were discovered in their crimes when victims finally came forward. Since 2003, the Air Force Academy has been aggressive in teaching young women to report sexual assault.
