“I am honored that Speaker-elect McCall would ask me to serve the state in this role,” said Kannady, R-Oklahoma City. “This will be a broad committee that oversees all kinds of legal issues. Our goal as House Republicans is to create an environment where Oklahomans are safer, freer and more prosperous, and much of those efforts will pass through this committee.”

There will also be a separate House Judiciary Committee on Criminal Justice & Corrections, along with the traditional House Appropriations & Budget Judiciary Subcommittee.

“Both our criminal and civil justice systems are so broad that they touch all aspects of our economy and our citizen’s daily lives, and we recognize that in the House of Representatives,” said Speaker-elect McCall, R-Atoka. “Rep. Kannady has the ability to run this committee efficiently and the expertise to handle the complex legal issues this committee will deal with.”

Former House Judiciary Chair and current House Appropriations & Budget Committee Chair Rep. Leslie Osborn, R-Mustang, said, “Rep. Kannady is the first Republican second term judiciary chairman, because he has demonstrated early he has the legal expertise and business sense to help move our State forward.”

During the 55th Legislature, Kannady served as chair of the House Appropriations & Budget Judiciary Subcommittee and as a member of the standing House Judiciary Committee.
